Under the OaksNotes on getting married outdoors in Texas

About

Under the Oaks is a set of notes about getting married outdoors on the Texas Gulf coast, written after rather too many Augusts spent standing on a lawn in a jacket.

Most wedding advice is written for temperate climates and then applied here, which is how people end up with a two o'clock June ceremony in full sun and a guest list wilting through the vows. The weather is not a detail down here. It is the design constraint everything else has to bend around.

So the bias is practical: which month, which hour, what shade there actually is, what the venue provides against what arrives on a truck, and what the wet-weather plan really costs.

This is not a venue and takes no bookings. Nothing here is sponsored, and no venue has paid to be mentioned. Written by Ruth Abernathy.
