If most of the room has flown in, you are hosting a weekend whether you planned one or not.

Accept It and Shape It

People who have travelled will be there the night before and the morning after, and they will do something. The choice is whether that something is organised or whether it is forty people in a hotel bar wondering where everyone else went.

It does not have to be hosted or expensive. A named bar and a time is enough, and it takes the pressure off the wedding day itself to carry all the socialising.

Tell People Things Early

Airport, distance, whether they need a car, what the weather will actually be doing. Guests booking from a cooler climate routinely underestimate a Gulf coast summer and pack accordingly.

A single page with this on it, sent early, prevents most of the questions that otherwise arrive individually in the last fortnight.

The Morning After

Something loose the next morning is the most appreciated and least expensive thing on the whole weekend, because it is when people can actually talk to you.

Keep it drop-in. Anything with a start time creates another obligation on a day when half the room is driving to an airport.
